CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: -
MODEL: B-52
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant George H. Schryer for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Fire Control Operator near Hanoi, North Vietnam on 20 December 1972. On that date, Sergeant Schryer defended his aircraft from one of the most lethally concentrated air defense ever encountered and allowed the assigned targets to be struck. Sergeant Schryer demonstrated outstanding airmanship and personal courage by continuing to defend the aircraft after it received severe battle damage and defensive equipment degradation following ordnance delivery. He made a significant contribution to the aircrew's ability to fly the crippled aircraft to friendly territory and a safe bailout and recovery. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Schryer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
