Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Alfred L. Schapker for extraordinary achievement as an RC-135C Electronic Warfare Officer, 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, from 7 July 1967 to 18 March 1968. During this period, Captain Schapker flew global missions in strange environments and under extremely adverse conditions. Although subjected to these hazards, he successfully collected data of great magnitude and of vital international significance. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Schapker reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
