Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Jacob E. Sanderson for extraordinary achievement while serving as Lead Navigator on many bombardment missions to Germany and enemy occupied territory. This officer has displayed superior navigational ability in overcoming adverse weather conditions to lead his formations to successfully bomb targets requiring deep penetrations. The skill and devotion to duty exhibited by this officer, on all these occasions, reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
