Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross. Captain Calvin J. Rupp distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 19 August 1955. On that date, as pilot of an HSS-1 helicopter, Captain Rupp flew repeated rescue missions in the flooded New England area. These daring rescues, accomplished under extremely hazardous conditions, saved the lives of many persons who would otherwise have perished in the ravishing flood waters.
