Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant George R. Ruby for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Engineer of a C-47 type aircraft. On 29 May 1944, Technical Sergeant Ruby flew on a night mission in an unarmed and unarmored troop carrier aircraft to evacuate personnel from behind enemy lines in the Balkan States. Displaying superior professional skill and determination in the performance of his duties as his pilot skillfully maneuvered over heavily defended enemy territory upon the approach to the target and return flight to base, Technical Sergeant Ruby contributed greatly to the successful completion of this vital mission. Flying more than 1,000 hours in an unarmed and unarmored troop carrier aircraft on missions to deliver supplies and personnel deep within enemy-held territory and to evacuate wounded. Technical Sergeant Ruby's outstanding proficiency in combat and steadfast devotion to duty have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
