Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Irving M. Roseman for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 26 May 1945. On a low-level night incendiary attack from a base in the Marianas against the city of Tokyo, Japan, Staff Sergeant Irving M. Roseman, as a member of a B-29 combat crew, flew the most heavily-defended areas of Japan at extremely low altitude to accomplish a successful bombing of the objective. The activity of enemy night fighters throughout the approaches to the target was aided by a maze of searchlights. Despite these hazards, Staff Sergeant Roseman exhibited superior airmanship in the accomplishment of his mission, resulting in the successful bombing of the target. Staff Sergeant Roseman made a material contribution to the destruction meted out to the enemy on this mission. Vital military targets were completely devastated, and a large area of the industrial section of the capital city was left a mass of smoking ruins. The dauntless courage and determination shown by Staff Sergeant Roseman of repeated assaults against the Japanese homeland in the completion of the assigned task reflect great credit on himself and the Army Air Forces.
