Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Frederick F. Richards for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-111A Aircraft Commander over Cambodia on 6 June 1973. On that date, Major Richards displayed outstanding airmanship in striking a supply storage area fifteen miles northwest of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Despite the constant threat of hostile ground fire, Major Richards successfully completed his strike, resulting in over twenty-eight medium secondary explosions and numerous sustained fires. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Richards reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
