Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Gary J. Reviczky for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action, above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Reviczky distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 7 May 1969, while serving as an Aircraft Commander of a AH-1G helicopter with Company D, 225th Aviation Battalion (Assault Helicopter) (Airmobile) during a combat assault. While the lift element in the combat assault was positioning for final approach into the landing zone they were taken under intense small arms and 51 caliber fire. The fourth ship in the lift formation was hit immediately and broke down heavy suppressive fire to cover the lift ships while, at the same time, providing cover for his lead ship. Warrant Officer Reviczky made several passes on two of the three anti-aircraft positions without the benefit of cover from his lead ship and through his superb Pilot technique and extremely accurate gunnery was responsible for silencing one of the fortified anti-aircraft positions. As a direct result of his quick reactions further damage to the lift element was prevented. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are In keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
