Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain William E. Reisner for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Reisner distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander aboard a UH-1 helicopter near Chi Lang. Captain Reisner was participating in an airmobile assault, which was lifting two allied elements onto the top of Nui Cotte Mountain, the home base of an enemy battalion. The landing zones were to have been cleared by B-52 air strikes, but the strikes were inaccurate and fell onto the sides of the mountain. Braving the intense small arms and automatic weapons fire, plus the hazardous obstacles presented by the terrain, Captain Reisner made many successful sorties to the two different landing zones infested with enemy soldiers. Through his courage and personal bravery, he contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon him
