Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Edward C. Redican for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 Navigator in Southeast Asia on 4 April 1968. On that date, Major Redican's aircraft flew an extremely dangerous low level aerial resupply mission to airdrop ammunition desperately needed by the Special Forces Team at Cha La to defend their beleaguered outpost. Approaching the drop zone on both sorties the aircraft came under cross fire from concealed automatic weapons gun positions inflicting damage to the aircraft and wounding one crew member. Despite damage to his aircraft, marginal weather, and the lack of navigational aids Major Redican successfully navigated the aircraft to the drop zone which enabled the crew to complete their mission. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Redican reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
