CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Grenada
MODEL: UH-60A
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States of America has awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant officer Paul L. Price, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight: Chief Warrant Officer Paul L. Price distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions as Pilot in Command of a UH-60A Blackhawk Helicopter with Company C, 158th Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). During combat assault operations on the morning of 25 October 1983, Chief Warrant Officer Price was piloting the lead aircraft of his platoon into an enemy position on the island of Grenada. As he approached the landing zone, his aviation platoon came under intense enemy fire from well-entrenched anti-aircraft positions. The copilot sustained mortal wounds from the withering fire; nevertheless, Chief Warrant Officer Price managed to land his aircraft and discharge the combat assault soldiers despite the furious enemy fire. Realizing his aircraft was partially disabled, he remained in the cockpit and flew the aircraft away from the hostile fire, thus permitting the evacuation of his fellow crewmembers. Chief Warrant Officer Price's display of exceptional courage and his concern for the lives and welfare of his comrades were in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit on him, the United States Army, and the United States of America.
