Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Charles L. Peterson for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123K Flight Mechanic at Dak Pek Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 21 April 1970. On that date, Sergeant Peterson was flying an emergency resupply day airdrop into a remote camp completely surrounded by hostile forces. Despite mountainous terrain and poor visibility from numerous air strikes in the immediate vicinity, Sergeant Peterson's cool and knowledgeable performance of his duties insured pinpoint delivery of the vital supplies. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Peterson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
