Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Bruce C. Peck, Warrant Officer, W1, United States Army, 336 th Assault Helicopter Co, Republic of Vietnam, for action dated 14 March 1968 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty: Warrant Officer Peck distinguished himself by valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander of a UH-1D Helicopter in support of friendly ground elements in a classified counterinsurgency effort near Can Tho. Warrant Officer Peck expertly maneuvered his helicopter into a landing zone to extract medical evacuees and deliver vital supplies to the harried forces on the ground. After approaching the landing zone three times, he displayed dazzling skill by landing the aircraft with only the aid of a single flashlight to guide him. His approach and departure had to be made low level in the face of intense enemy automatic weapons and small arms fire. Warrant Officer Peck's professional demeanor combined with his dashing disregard for his own safety contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
