Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Marvin G. Paxton for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a B-52D Fire Control Operator near Hanoi, North Vietnam on 26 December 1972. On that date, Sergeant Paxton was the aerial gunner on an aircraft engaged in one of the largest bombing raids of the Southeast Asian conflict. His extreme vigilance, exceptional self-discipline, and heroic acts were instrumental in the successful accomplishment of the mission and safe recovery of the aircraft. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Paxton reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
