Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Leon T. Pauley for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Pilot near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 10 March 1971. On that date, Captain Pauley led a flight of fighter aircraft to defend a friendly truck convoy which was under attack by hostile forces. His expert assistance to the Aircraft Commander, in spite of heavy ground fire contributed significantly to the successful defense of the convoy and resulted in twenty hostile casualties. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Pauley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
