CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: C-130E
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John D. Mogul for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-l30E Pilot, 776th Tactical Airlift Squadron, near Kampong Thom, Cambodia, on 25 February 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Mogul flew an emergency airdrop of 32,000 pounds of critically needed fuel to a beleaguered Cambodian outpost that was cut off from normal supply routes by three hostile troop concentrations of battalion size. Using precision pilotage and combat profile techniques, he ably assisted in delivering the fuel within fifty yards of the planned impact point in spite of heavy automatic weapons fire in the target area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Mogul reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
