Paine for extraordinary achievement from August 25, 1942 to December 31, 1942. First Lieutenant Charles Paine flew many operational missions from advance bases in the Western Aleutian Area. Lieutenant Paine displayed a courageous and praiseworthy attitude throughout the attacks, despite the fact that strong enemy anti-aircraft fire was received and enemy fighter opposition was encountered. The determination and gallantry of Lieutenant Paine is exemplary of the highest ideals of the Army Air Force.
