Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-24 Lead Crew Co-Pilot, 68th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomb Group (Heavy), 8th Air Force on 18 April 1945. On this date, Lieutenant Overhultz and his crew led many strategic bombardment missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe. The airmanship and courage exhibited by Lieutenant Overhultz in the successful accomplishment of these vital missions while under extremely hazardous conditions, contributed immensely to Allied Forces establishing air superiority in the skies of Europe and led to the defeat of the Axis Powers. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Overhultz reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Corps.
