Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross on 7 February 1968 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. He distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action while serving as a door gunner of an armed helicopter during a resupply mission near Hue, Republic of Vietnam. When his aircraft came under intense hostile ground fire, Private Osborne exposed himself to the enemy fire as he marked and effectively engaged the hostile emplacements. Upon realizing that the pilot was seriously wounded, he began administering first aid and successes in stopping the large loss of blood from the injured man, enabling the pilot to safely land his aircraft. His display of personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the Unites States Army.
