Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight as evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Kingdom of Laos. Chief Warrant Officer Olson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 12 February 1971 while serving as an Aircraft Commander with 132 Aviation Company, 14th Aviation Battalion. On that date, Chief Warrant Officer Olson was conducting an emergency resupply operation to ARVN Firebase in Laos, which was under an intense attack by North Vietnamese Army soldiers. Chief Warrant Officer Olson, realizing the critical need of his cargo of ammunition and food supplies, repeatedly maneuvered his heavily laden aircraft into the embattled base and delivered his cargo. His timely and courageous actions were instrumental in the success of the ARVN forces in retaining control of the firebase. Chief Warrant Officer Olson's personal heroism, professional competence and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 23rd Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
