Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 17 March 1967 in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, the pilot of their OH-13S was seriously wounded in the right arm. Specialist Nowocin immediately applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. He made all radio calls as the pilot was unable to move his hand from the controls. Specialist Nowocin remained calm and in complete control of himself and the situation. He insured that he could reach the controls to make a safe landing, if necessary. Specialist Nowocin made timely and accurate progress reports as to the condition of the pilot and their locations. Due to Specialist Nowocin's actions, the pilot was able to safely return to a secure airfield without any mishaps or incidents. Specialist Nowocin's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
