Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant David F. Nefzger for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an O-2B Pilot near Chu Lai, Republic of Vietnam on 3 June 1969. On that date, while flying a routine psychological operations mission, Lieutenant Nefzger responded to an urgent call for assistance in attempting to contact and coordinate the extraction of a United States Army patrol which was under heavy attack. Although aware of the dangers involved, Lieutenant Nefzger accepted the risks in an effort to aid in the rescue of the lost patrol and was of significant assistance in their recovery. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Nefzger reflect great credit upon himself and the united States Air force.
