Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Frederick G. Muesegaes for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a RF-101 Pilot and Mission Leader over the Island of Cuba on 12 November 1962. On that date, Captain Muesegaes' exemplary knowledge, unerring leadership and outstanding airmanship, displayed under extremely hazardous and difficult conditions, culminated in highly successful aerial intelligence of Cuban-based Soviet Missile installations. The accuracy of the data obtained provided national authorities at the highest level with essential intelligence regarding Soviet missile deployments. The professional skill, and airmanship displayed by Captain Muesegaes reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
