Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as a Division Leader in Fighting Squadron Forty Six attached to the U.S.S. Independence in action against enemy Japanese forces at Kikai Shima in the Mansei Shoto on May 4, 1945. Leading a four-plane division on target combat air patrol, Lieutenant Morrison dive-bombed Kikai Airfield and, then pursuing a group of enemy planes, destroyed two aircraft in the ensuing engagement. His courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
