CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: -
MODEL: B-26
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John M. Morrison for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy on 19 April 1945 as a Bombardier of a B-26 type aircraft. While working over his bombing equipment and estimating the axis of attack upon a secondary target, Lieutenant Morrison was severely wounded by flak. Unable to continue his sighting operation because his vision was impaired and, unwilling to turn the lead position over to the deputy in the face of attacking enemy aircraft, Lieutenant Morrison ignored his pain and remained in the nose of his aircraft to instruct his Navigator in completing the sighting operation and synchronization necessary to achieve a successful, destructive bomb release. The courage and devotion to duty of Lieutenant Morrison on this occasion were deserving of highest praise.
