Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant (Junior Grade) for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Co-Pilot of a patrol bomber in Patrol Bombing Squadron One Hundred Sixteen in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific War area from 3 April to 26 July 1945. Completing twenty search, special reconnaissance and night air-sea rescue missions during this period, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, (then Ensign) Morris contributed materially to the success of his squadron and to the infliction of damage on enemy installations and shipping. His skill and devotion to duty in the face of hostile anti-aircraft fire were keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
