The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Dwight A. Moore for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52D Aircraft Commander, 43rd Strategic Wing, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, on 3 June 1972. On that date, while flying on a critical combat mission in Southeast Asia, Captain Moore had to assume the lead of his cell of three aircraft due to a malfunction of the lead aircraft. During the bombing run, Captain Moore was forced to employ emergency bombing procedures due to a further malfunction of an aircraft in his cell. These procedures were completed with great precision despite the presence of a severe tropical storm in the area of the target. As a result of Captain Moore's efforts, all weapons were delivered on the high priority target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Moore reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
