The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Monte D. Montgomery for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Aircraft Commander over Nham Duong, Republic of Vietnam on 14 December 1966. On that date, Captain Montgomery disregarded the dangers of weather and intense hostile fire to defend an outpost which was about to be annihilated. Flying at extremely low altitude in and out of the clouds, Captain Montgomery engaged the hostiles until all hostile fire had ceased and the security of the outpost was assured. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Montgomery reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to Captain Monte D. Montgomery for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of an AC-47 aircraft over the Republic of Vietnam on the night of 11 December 1966. On that date, after having already successfully defended two outposts and a New Life Hamlet, Captain Montgomery and his crew flew to the assistance of a Battalion of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam which was in heavy contact with the hostiles of Nhi Quy Village, a vital highway junction. In spite of adverse weather and intense hostile fire Captain Montgomery and his crew provided light to the friendlies and made repeated attacks upon the hostiles. The actions of Captain Montgomery and his crew under fire enabled a counterattack to be launched and the hostiles routed. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Montgomery reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Second Oak Leaf Cluster) to Captain Monte D. Montgomery for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Aircraft Commander near Tam Binh, Republic of Vietnam on 26 March 1967. On that night while flying airborne alert over Binh Thuy Air Base, Captain Montgomery and his crew were called to defend the town of Tam Binh, a district capital. With complete disregard for their own personal safety Captain Montgomery and his crew made repeated firing passes through friendly artillery and severe ground fire to strike the hostile positions. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Montgomery reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Third Oak Leaf Cluster) to Captain Monte D. Montgomery for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Aircraft Commander near Can Tho, Republic of Vietnam on 13 April 1967. On that date Captain Montgomery and his crew flew in support of friendly forces engaged in Operation Dan Chi 288B. Despite intense hostile fire which had destroyed two friendly aircraft, Captain Montgomery and his crew courageously and accurately pressed the attack with devastating firepower. The efforts of Captain Montgomery and his crew were integral factors in a significant victory. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Montgomery reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
