AWARDED DFC: 1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Vietnam
MODEL:  AC-47

Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Robert C. Moat for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Aerial Gunner near Phu Loi, Republic of Vietnam on 12 January 1968. On that date, Sergeant Moat's Dragonship was scrambled to support two friendly compounds, which were under attack by a numerically superior hostile force. Sergeant Moat's determination to keep his miniguns loaded and on the line, despite one inoperative gun and repeated jams on the other two, enabled his Dragonship to repel two human wave attacks, destroy a number of hostile sampans and silence an anti-aircraft position. His aircraft thus prevented the friendly compounds from being overrun. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Moat reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
