Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Eddie R. Mims for distinguishing himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AG-119K Infrared Radar Operator in Southeast Asia on 9 July 1972. On that date, Lieutenant Mims and his crew turned the tide of battle and saved a friendly outpost in Vietnam from being overrun by hostile forces through their gunship close air support. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Mims reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
