Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross First Lieutenant Kipp O. Miller for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 11 March 1969 while serving as Pilot of a UH-1H helicopter during a combat mission in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam. Upon learning that a small landing zone was under heavy enemy attack, First Lieutenant Miller immediately answered the call for assistance. Arriving over the contact area, First Lieutenant Miller spotted enemy rocket and mortar sites and directed artillery fire upon them. Exposing himself to the hostile ground fire, he eliminated an enemy anti-aircraft position. Despite the heavy fire directed against his helicopter, First Lieutenant Miller voluntarily flew into the landing zone and successfully extracted several wounded soldiers, flying them to the nearest medical facility. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
