Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Brian J. Miller, WO, United States Army, A Trp, 3rd Sqdn, 17th Air Cav, Republic of Vietnam, for action dated 31 January 1968 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty: Warrant Officer Miller distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot on an OH-6A observation helicopter during an intense attack on Long Binh and Bien Hoa airbase. His scout team was sent to the Long Binh area to provide reconnaissance and to intercept any escaping enemy personnel. During the mission, his aircraft became the target of intense enemy fire. Warrant Officer Miller constantly exposed himself to the intense enemy fire as he counterattacked the enemy positions. He prevented the insurgents from escaping by taking low passes over the hostile force as his gunner fired into the enemy with his M-16 rifle. After the gunships had made several passes and departed the area, Warrant Officer Miller maneuvered his aircraft and dropped fragmentation grenades over the area. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United states Army.
