AWARDED DFC:

CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: -
MODEL: EB-66
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John T. McNabb II for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an EB-66 Navigator for the 42nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, on 16 November 1969. On that date, his unarmed and unescorted aircraft was launched to provide electronic countermeasures support for a vital heavy-bomber strike mission. While supporting the strike mission, Lieutenant McNabb's aircraft came under attack from large caliber anti-aircraft artillery and because of the extreme importance of the electronic countermeasure support, the aircraft was kept in this vulnerable position until all strike aircraft had egressed the target area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant McNabb reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
