Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Spencer F. McClure for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Instructor Pilot at Chu Lai Air Base, Republic of Vietnam on 11 November 1969. On that date, Captain McClure's plane experienced an engine failure just after takeoff, while carrying a heavy load of cargo. Through his personal bravery and energetic application of his knowledge and skill, he was able to avert a possible major aircraft accident. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain McClure reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
