Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Douglas H. May for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight near An Loc, Republic of Vietnam, on 28 December 1968. On that date, Lieutenant May displayed outstanding aerial competence and courageous professionalism in the aggressive pursuance of the assigned target. The tenacity of this officer to attain the objective against formidable defenses is in accord with the highest of military standards. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant May reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Douglas H. May for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander over Southeast Asia on 3 September 1970. On that date, Captain May led a flight of two F-4D Phantoms into a hostile area to strike supplies and ammunition being transported to an opposing armed force. Despite the occurrence of accurate tracking ground fire, Captain May skillfully maneuvered his aircraft into position to attack the target. The results were two barges destroyed, one barge damaged, and a significant disruption of efforts to resupply hostile forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain May reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
