Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Samuel Mastrogiacomo for extraordinary achievement in the destruction of five enemy aircraft while participating in aerial flight as a crewman on bombardment missions over enemy occupied Continental Europe from 30 December 1943 to 16 December 1944. During this period, the airmanship and courage exhibited by Sergeant Mastrogiacomo in the successful accomplishment of bombing missions over enemy territory, under hazardous conditions, demonstrated his outstanding proficiency and steadfast devotion to duty. The professional skill, and airmanship displayed by Sergeant Mastrogiacomo reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
