Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Harold R. Marsolais for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Marsolais distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as Assistant Battalion Operations Officer, for the 11th Aviation Battalion (Combat). He performed his duties in a thoroughly professional manner and, during normal off-duty hours, voluntarily flew as Pilot of an armed helicopter designed to observe enemy night operations. The aircraft, designated Nighthawk was flown by Captain Marsolais in pursuit of an enemy determined to continue a campaign of terror and aggression under cover of darkness. Responding from an alert statue with minimum reaction time, he provided an invaluable aviation capability to the commanders of the 1st Infantry and 5th ARVN Infantry Divisions. By valorously braving hostile fire, marginal weather, and the extreme dangers inherent to low-level flying at night, he continually strived for mission accomplishment, while displaying his superior airmanship and enviable devotion to duty. Captain Marsolais' perceptive contributions to the development of the Nighthawk weapons system, his intrepid and persevering implementation, and selflessness in the supported units have contributed immeasurably to the effectiveness of his unit. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
