Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant John L. Mann for extraordinary heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Radio Operator with the 701st Bomb Squadron, 445th Bomb Group on 23 December 1944. During this period, Sergeant Mann selflessly attempted to manually release the bombs and close the bomb bay doors after a mission to bomb Koblenz, Germany. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Mann reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
