Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Lorin C. Long for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-117A Stealth Fighter Pilot, 37th Tactical Fighter Wing Provisional, King Khalid Air Base, Saudi Arabia, over Salmon Pak, Iraq, on 17 January 1991. Major Long flew an F-117A as part of the second wave of coordinated attacks on high value targets in Iraq. With antiaircraft fire erupting all around his aircraft, Major Long completely disregarded his personal safety and descended his then unproven F-117A aircraft into the heart of the intense ground fire. Precisely on time, he scored a direct hit on a chemical and biological warfare research facility. He then continued through the barrage of ground fire and reattacked the facility, scoring another direct hit and destroying the target. These courageous and timely attacks severely degraded Iraq's chemical and biological warfare capability and hampered further production, thereby gaining significant advantage for coalition forces. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Long reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
