Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action, above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Lodwig distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 6 January 1970, while serving as Pilot in the Republic of Vietnam. With total disregard for his own safety, Warrant Officer Lodwig repeatedly went into the hot landing zone and dropped off several loads of ammunition and food to the forces still in heavy contact around the perimeter. On his last sortie, he went into still another landing zone under heavy contact, landed his aircraft under total darkness and remained long enough for the unit in contact to load their casualties aboard the aircraft. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
