Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Marvin Levine for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty on 28 December 1967. Captain Levine distinguished himself while serving as Aircraft Commander in a lightly armed transport helicopter involved in the emergency extraction of Allied soldiers near Bao Trai, Republic of Vietnam. Landing in the midst of enemy fire, he waited on the ground while the soldiers crawled to his aircraft and climbed aboard. While lifting out of the area, his ship received intense enemy fire which set part of the fuselage on fire. Notified of the fire by the pilot of another aircraft, he immediately attempted to put the fire out by diving the ship towards the ground at a rapid speed. Picking out a clear landing area, he pulled the aircraft out of the dive at the last possible moment and gently set it on the ground. His skillful appraisal of the situation saved the crew and troops aboard the aircraft. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
