Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Clifford M. Lefferts for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight from 20 June 1944 to 15 December 1944. During this period, he participated in fifty-three combat missions against the enemy as a crew member of medium bombardment type aircraft. As combat motion picture photographer, he obtained valuable photographic documents of important aerial actions. Although fire from enemy ground installations and hostile aircraft was often encountered in Occupied China, Thailand, and Burma, he carried out his duties calmly and efficiently. He faced additional hazards of treacherous weather over mountainous, poorly charted terrain. Sergeant Lefforts’ coolness and technical skill reflect high credit upon himself and upon the Army Air Forces.
