Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard D. Lee for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52G Co-Pilot in Southeast Asia, on 16 July 1973. On that date, Captain Lee flew as Lead Aircraft Co-Pilot in a wave of heavy bombers against multiple targets located twenty miles northeast of Phnom-Penh, Cambodia. Captain Lee participated in directing the wave to a successful strike against the hostile target, preventing the overrun of allied positions. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
