Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Roger E. Lawson for heroism while participating in aerial flight as Flight Engineer Specialist near Plei Mrong, Republic of Vietnam on 21 September 1968. On that date, Sergeant Lawson participated in the rescue extraction of a severely burned United States Army helicopter crew member from extremely hostile territory. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Lawson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
