AWARDED DFC: 1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Vietnam
MODEL:  F-100

Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Larry L. LaVine for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Pilot near Duc Lap Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 23 August 1968. On that date, Captain LaVine, flying in support of friendly ground forces under intense attack, made repeated attacks on his target, delivering his ordnance with great accuracy. The hostile fire was deadly accurate; so accurate that Captain LaVine's wingman was shot down during the attack and Captain LaVine's aircraft itself was hit. However, he steadily remained on station, providing essential support for his wingman until he was forced to leave the area with minimum fuel. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain LaVine reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
