Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ove S. Larsen for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Chief Warrant Officer Larsen distinguished himself on 13 April 1971 while serving as a Co-pilot of a UH-1H helicopter during an extraction mission in Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam. When two friendly troops were wounded by enemy fire, Chief Warrant Officer Larsen volunteered to attempt the extraction. Upon approaching the landing site, Chief Warrant Officer Larsen's aircraft came under intense enemy fire. After the wounded soldiers were placed onboard, he assisted the Pilot in maneuvering the aircraft through a barrage of enemy fire to safety. His actions were instrumental in the medical evacuation of the wounded soldiers. Chief Warrant Officer Larsen's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
