The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Thomas P. Johnson, Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights as an F-4D Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 17 December 1967. On that date, while escorting a strike force to a target deep in North Vietnam, Captain Johnson attacked a flight of hostile fighter aircraft which were endangering the strike force. His skill and persistence during maneuvers which exceeded maximum performance enabled another member of his flight to down a hostile fighter and permitted the strike force to complete its mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Johnson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
2.)
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Thomas P. Johnson, Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights as an F-4D Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 28 April 1968. On that date, Captain Johnson led a flight of four aircraft on an attack upon a large number of troops besieging a friendly outpost. In spite of extremely poor weather conditions, requiring exceptional aerial skill to keep the target in sight and not endanger friendly troops, Captain Johnson placed all of his ordnance precisely on target. The opposing troops retreated with heavy losses. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Johnson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
