Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert N. Johnson for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia on 15 April 1971. On that date, Captain Johnson received an urgent plea for help from a small allied unit being attacked by a hostile force of unknown size and requesting that their wounded be evacuated. While coordinating with an interpreter in another aircraft and the evacuation helicopters, Captain Johnson accurately directed three sets of helicopter gunships into the target area and effectively broke the contact. As a result of his actions, the unit was evacuated, numerous friendly lives were saved and several hostile fighting positions were destroyed. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Johnson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert N. Johnson for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia on 28 July 1971. On that date, Captain Johnson flew in support of a small friendly patrol in contact with a large hostile force. Disregarding intense ground fire directed at his unarmed aircraft, he made repeated rocket passes at the opposing positions to cover helicopters attempting to extract the patrol. Because of his actions, the patrol was successfully recovered without casualties. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Johnson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
