Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Kenneth R. Lape for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller near Tuy Hoa, Republic of Vietnam on 5 October 1964. On that date, while piloting an L-19 aircraft on a combat support mission, Lieutenant Lape skillfully directed armed helicopters to hostile positions by dropping smoke and making low passes under hazardous conditions. Due to his efforts a significant victory was won by forces of the Republic of Vietnam. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Lape reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
