Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Jesse W. Lankford, Jr., for extraordinary achievement from 31 January 1945 to 3 March 1945 while participating in more than one hundred hours of aerial flight over territory in Burma where exposure to enemy fire was probable and expected. These missions were accomplished in unarmed cargo type aircraft bearing troops, supplies and heavy equipment over hazardous mountainous terrain in the forward areas. This display of devotion to duty and a degree of efficiency above and beyond that normally expected reflect credit on these pilots and these crew members and on the Armed Air Forces of the United States.
